The Nasini Medal has been awarded to Stefano Zacchini, University of Bologna, Italy, on the occasion of the 38th National Conference of the Division of Inorganic Chemistry held in Trieste, Friuli, Italy.  At the conference Stefano Zacchini gave the plenary Nasini Lecture entitled “Developing a molecular approach towards metal nanoparticles using metal carbonyl clusters”.

The Nasini Medal is the most prestigious award of the Division of Inorganic Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society. It is awarded every year to the most meritorious young Italian scientist (under the age of 40) who has shown remarkable skills in the field of Inorganic Chemistry.

Zacchini graduated in Chemistry at the University of Bologna (1996) and did a PhD at the Liverpool University, UK, with B. Heaton in 2001. He is currently Associate Professor at the University of Bologna where he has demonstrated that metal-carbonyl clusters have important applications in emerging areas of chemistry linked to nanosciences and nanotechnology with emphasis in molecular electronics and heterogeneous catalysis.
