The results of the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) review have been announced by S&P Dow Jones Indices (“S&P DJI). Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability™ World Index (DJSI World) was among the very first set of global indices to track the largest and leading sustainability-driven publicly listed companies. It is comprised of corporate leaders in global sustainability on the basis of their results in the SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). Considering environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, a sustainability score is assigned to each company. Based on this score, those companies that rank within the top 10 % of their industries are included in the DJSI World.
Participation increased 33 % to 1,843 companies from over 5,300 invited. The participating companies thus represent 45 % of the global market capitalization compared to the S&P Global BMI (Broad Market Index). In 2020, the figure was 32 %.
The three largest additions (by free-float market capitalization) to the DJSI World this year are: Alphabet Inc, Mountain View, CA, USA, Medtronic plc, Dublin, Ireland, and Gilead Sciences Inc, Foster City, CA, USA. the following top three largest companies were deleted: Nestlé S.A., Vevey, Switzerland, TotalEnergies SE, Courbevoie, France, and Humana Inc, Louisville, KY, USA.
