The results of the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) review have been announced. The DJSI World was the first global index to track the leading sustainability-driven publicly listed companies. This year marks its 20th anniversary. Companies are selected for inclusion in the DJSI World and several other sustainability indices on the basis of their results in RobecoSAM’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). Each year, over 3,500 publicly traded companies are invited to participate in the CSA.
The DJSI follows a best-in-class approach, including companies across all industries that outperform their peers in sustainability metrics. This way, no industries are excluded from the assessment. Considering environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, a sustainability score is assigned to each company. Based on this score, those companies that rank within the top 10 % of their industries are included in the DJSI World.
The three largest additions (by free-float market capitalization) to the DJSI World this year are Alphabet Inc, CVS Health Corp, and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC, the three largest deletions are Citigroup Inc (which is still included in DJSI North America), Royal Dutch Shell PLC, and 3M Co.
