The longtime CEO of Dow Chemical, Andrew Liveris, will retire by mid-2018. He will resign from his executive chairman position at DowDuPont on April 1 and from his board director role on July 1. Jeff Fettig will succeed Liveris as executive chairman, and Jim Fitterling (pictured) will become CEO of the materials-science company when DowDuPont breaks up into three companies next year. One of the three companies will focus on material science (to be called Dow), one on agriculture, and one on specialty products.
Andrew N. Liveris, born 1954 in Darwin, Australia, studied chemical engineering at the University of Queensland, St Lucia, QLD, Australia. In 1976, he started working for Dow, first in Melbourne, Australia, then in Asia, and later in the US. Liveris has been Dow’s CEO since 2004, and Chairman of the board since 2006. Two years ago, Andrew Liveris announced he would retire by mid-2017.
Jeff M. Fettig, born 1957 in St. Joseph, MI, USA, studied finance at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, USA, and graduated in 1979. He became a master in business administration from the Kelley School of Business, Bloomington, IN, USA, in 1981. In the same year, he joined the Whirlpool Corporation, Benton Harbor, MI, USA. From 1999–2004, he was President and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) there. Fettig has served on the board of directors of Dow since 2003. Currently, he is co-Lead Independent Director for DowDuPont.
James R. Fitterling, also known as Jim, earned a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri – Columbia, MO, USA, and joined Dow in 1984. He served in a variety of positions in Asia and the US. Currently, he is COO of DowDuPont’s materials science division.
