BASF or Syngenta Could Buy Bayer Assets

Author: ChemistryViews.org

BASF, Syngenta, and other companies are said to have submitted preliminary bids for assets that Bayer plans to sell to get regulatory approval for its US$ 66 billion takeover of Monsanto. The assets include canola, cottonseeds, the LibertyLink herbicide-resistant trait and its glufosinate weed killer, as well as garlic and pepper seed operations. In total, the disposals may bring in US$ 2.5–3 billion.

Sources for these information have not been named, no final decisions have been made, and the companies possibly might decide against proceeding with the offer.

Syngenta is being acquired by China National Chemical Corp. in a US$ 43 billion deal. Bayer earlier this month sold shares and convertible bonds in Covestro worth about 2.1 billion euros.
