The World water Day highlights the importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. it is held since 1993 annually on 22 March. The idea arose at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March of the following year as the first World Water Day.
Each year, a specific aspect of freshwater is highlighted. This year, which is also the International Year of Water Cooperation, is dedicated to the cooperation around water.
