The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has updated the public Classification and Labelling (C&L) Inventory to now contain all information on hazardous substances on the EU market.
Now, the Inventory shows all notifications for substances for which there is at least one notification classifying it as hazardous according to Article 119(1) of REACH. It therefiore reveals differences in the classification and labelling of the same substance applied by different suppliers, thus pointing to the need for further discussion among companies to explore the reasons for differences and/or agree on the correct classification.
In addition, all notifications for substances on the EC inventory are also now provided. The EC Inventory is the list of substances having an EC number. The European Commission, EC or Existing Commercial chemical Substances (EINECS) number is a unique seven-digit identifier that is assigned to chemical substances for regulatory purposes within the European Union by the regulatory authorities. The list contains over 100,000 substances which were deemed to be on the European Community market between 1 January 1971 and 18 September 1981.
The current version of the C&L inventory contains approximately 5.3 million notifications relating to 120,000 substances. The data is refreshed on a regular basis with incoming and updated C&L information.
