The Chemical Bond is the Basis of the Complexity of the Universe
Gernot Frenking, professor emeritus at Philipps University, Marburg, Germany, has received the Erich-Hückel award from the GDCh for his outstanding contributions to solving current problems in chemistry through the application of modern quantum chemical methods. The focus of his research are dative bonding in main-group compounds and transition metal complexes, bonding analysis of molecules which possess unusual bonds and reaction mechanisms of small-molecule activation.
We met Gernot Frenking at the GDCh office in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, for this interview and talked about his research, surprising chemical bonds, his visiting professorships in Spain and China, and basic research and applications.
