Dong Qin, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA, explains her research. She combines spectroscopy and nanotechnology to study the interactions between nanoparticles and organic ligands. The work could have applications in sensing and catalysis.

Dong Qin studied chemistry at Fudan University, Shanghai, China, and received her Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, in 1996. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow with George M. Whitesides at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA. Qin also has an MBA from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. She currently serves as Associate Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology

Qin has received the 3M Non-Tenured Faculty Award 2015–2018, the Georgia Tech CETL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2015, and the Geoffrey G. Eichholz Faculty Teaching Award in 2018.
