Neville Compton to Become Editor-in-Chief of Angewandte Chemie

Dr. Neville Compton (pictured left) will take over as Editor-in-Chief of Angewandte Chemie from October 1, 2017. He will succeed Dr. Peter Gölitz (pictured right), who has held the position for 35 years and will retire this year. Under Peter Gölitz’s leadership, Angewandte Chemie transformed from a national to a leading international journal; in 2016 the top four countries in terms of published papers were USA, China, Germany, and Japan. Angewandte Chemie is the flagship journal of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society) and a worldwide leading scientific journal.

Neville Compton studied chemistry at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, where he received his Ph.D., then carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and joined the editorial team of Angewandte Chemie in 1992 at the age of 27. In 1997 he was promoted to Deputy Editor, and in 2002 he became also the Editor-in-Chief of Chemistry – A European Journal, the pre-eminent journal of ChemPubSoc Europe, an organization comprising 16 European chemical societies.
